Does ThermAffix Gel require a prescription?
-ThermAffix Gel is a mixture formulated specifically by a compounding pharmacist. Because of this and the fact that it is often medicated with unique mixtures of anti-infective/anti-inflammatory drugs, it does require a prescription. Prescription forms are available on our Order Page. The therapy is typically prescribed for office use.
How does ThermAffix Gel work?
-ThermAffix Gel is formulated using a special and well studied polaxamer base. Polaxamer gels are thermoreversable which means that it is in a fluid state when cold and a solid gel state when at body temperature. In our prescriber's experiences, when it is combined with antibiotic therapies and placed in otic vertical canal it will release the drug over a period of approximatly 5-7 days. Polaxamer gels are bio-adhesive and have been well studied and used in a multitude of medicinal applications. Why does ThermAffix Gel have to be compounded?
-ThermAffix Gel is not a mass produced drug mixture and it is minimally preserved for safety reasons. Although it is typically formulated with Enrofloxacin, Ketoconazole and Triamcinolone it can be formulated with a multitude of different medications. This can only be done with the skills and techniques of a compounding pharmacist. Thermaffix Gel is not available from commercial manufacturers because it is custom compounded to order.

What medications can be used with ThermAffix Gel?
-A wide variety of medications can be incorporated into ThermAffix Gel. There are times when certain medications may interact with each other. Our pharmacist has a 13 years in the compounding industry and makes it a point to check every formulation for potential interactions that may occur with drugs that are mixed into ThermAffix Gel. -Absolutely, polaxamer gels have been used in ophthamalic, topical, rectal, sublingual, epidural and injectable formulations. Recenty, some of our veterinarians have used ThermAffix gel during surgery as a diluent for antibiotics placed into the cavity prior to closure and suturing. Is ThermAffix Gel sterile?
-Yes, each batch of compounded ThermAffix Gel is sterilized to ensure the highest quality and safest compound possible. Our pharmacists do not cut corners in the compounding of this product. Your patients are important to you and becuase of that they are important to us as well.
Is ThermAffix Gel FDA approved?
-Compounding pharmacies are under the jurisdiction of the FDA and local State Boards of Pharmacy. Since compounded therapies are unique in their formulations they can not be FDA approved.
